A Little Bit?

I saw Gordon Brown on tv and thought he looked a little like Mr. Bean.
A little? No?

Me, Optimistic and Skinny

That's right, I was skinny once! This is one of my senior pictures, I took when I was 17 back in 1990. Funny!
My sister and I spend the day going through old boxes and photos. Of course we found awesome stuff, including this proof that I was once skinny. Check out more of my teenage splendor here.

Like a Jerk!

Joshua Trujillo of the P-I took this; it's on a closed-off overpass on 520 in the Arboretum. Who is Gina? It's a mystery.

______

So you know how I hate flashcards? Well, I'm doing some flashcards.

After my Mandarin summer intensive last year, I knew about 200 characters. Now I gotta get them all back, and more. I've been spending my days reading blogs from people doing study abroad in China, and one blogger reported that in my program they give them 50 new characters per day, with dictation the next day to quiz them.

That's right... dictation. Son of a bitch! What is it, the 50s? Should I bring my cassette recorder, for goodness sakes?

Man! But I can't change China, so I'm studying flashcards. Like a jerk!

Will flashcards help me do dictation? No. Doing flashcards will help me to do one thing well, and that is... flashcards. You know what will help me do dictation? Being able to speak Mandarin, that's what.

Sigh. But for now, I'm going to do my flashcards, and write sentences for the characters I don't know well.

Like a jerk!

Photos with Unimaginative Captions

This is what it looks like to wait for your breakfast at Lowell's in the market.

Ooh, look out the window.

If I were a better person, I would reference the title and artist of this work for you. It's at the SAM in an awesome room that has to do with people's struggles with war and opression. This one is made up of shiny dog tags.

View of the lobby of the new SAM.

The view from across the table. From me.

Look What I Found in my Camera

Toss in sea salt and black pepper; drop into a screaming hot pan for a couple minutes on each side. Don't over cook your shrimp!

Detail. This pattern would make a cool Hawaiian shirt.

Wontons with noodles and vegetables; soup on the side. From Homestyle Hong Kong Cafe (the stone pot place).

My first assignment from 9th Grade Drawing. The art teacher is letting me audit her drawing class. The man on the left is the assignment page. The assignment was to look at the drawing upside-down and copy the lines. The upside-down aspect is to prevent your left brain from taking over and filling your page with symbols, intstead of lines. On the right is my effort; as you can see, my proportions were a little wonky. Notice how my drawing's head pokes outside of the frame. Oops.

Assignment number 2 is a negative space assignment. We'll see how that goes.

Happy Birthday Cowsin I

We celebrated Daps' 30th b-day at Hidmo Eritrean Restaurant.

There was Filipino food and Eritrean food. I ate the salmon and the Eritrean food. Mmm, delicious.

Download Time

Sometimes I forget to download the pictures I've taken.

Here's a shot of my steak and polenta. The steak I cooked in the Showtime Rotisserie my mama left me for half a hour. The polenta I just fried in a pan with a little bit of oil. Does polenta count as a vegetable? Didn't think so.

They stripped my roof. They put the debris in my parking spot, because they were afraid it was going to blow down in the windstorm. Then it snowed, and then froze.

Yes, they covered the building in plastic after they stripped the roof.

They pulled off some boards and laid them on top of the a little box out. The Marlboro box is gone, but the boards are all still there a month later.

Here are some crazy white ladies that were singing karaoke a while ago.

Endless Love

C and M's wedding reception, as seen from Table Seven, with music by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross.

The View from Table Seven

If you want to check out some of the 60+ pictures that I took at Cowsin C's wedding, you should go here. There are no pictures of the happy couple there; other people took those pictures.

That's me and Cowsin D, who is now engaged. Congratulations!

I will have to summarize the different events some other time. For now, enjoy the Table Seven photos and, below, 13 seconds of the FYA drill team, which entertained us at the reception. w00t!

Sweet Photos Essays

Seattlest pointed to some of SweetThaiThai's photos on Flikr, which includes a some photo essays of Harbor Island, the ID, and some stadium district parking garages at night.

I really enjoyed them.

Also, check out his other sets; some Japan photos, a ceramics studio, a scavenger hunt series, etc.

SEX flag

So the students are planning their high school homecoming week, and for their theme, they've picked the MTV Video Music Awards. Not bad!

For the t-shirt, the t-shirt guy found a picture of the moon-landing award statuette, but then altered it so that the flag wouldn't say "MTV."

Take a good look at the flag.

Do you see the word SEX, or is it just me?

Dinner at KJ's... Yum!

What a delicious grown-up evening! Yum. Posted by Picasa

What a bunch of tools!

These people built a park bench and put it on my porch!

Don't forget, I owe Cowsin R $40 for the bench. He picked it up at the store for me!
