Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi: She doesn't deserve to hang.

Hey, everyone, click HERE for the Haiku/Senryuu Festival! The festival will remain open for contributions until Memorial Day. Don't be shy about posting!

So Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi stands before the Iranian Supreme Court this week, which is reviewing her death penalty sentence. Her side: she stabbed a man in the chest to prevent herself and her niece from getting raped (and facing 100 lashes for fornication).

Our friend BitchPhd has been enjoying an academic disucssion about women in Iran, comparative criminal justice systems, whether Fatehi was defending herself or if she's just a hot-headed pre-mature stabber.

I am not that familiar with the case, and I'm not sure I even represented it very well above. However, I will say this: Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi does not deserve to hang.

When they hang her, they won't be protecting society from a dangerous criminal; they won't be punishing her (in as much as dead people can't hurt, or even regret). In fact, the message they will be sending is this: ladies, don't defend yourselves from sexual aggression.

Thanks, Bitch!
