Rev. Hutcherson Loves Homosexuals?
The debate will be broadcast tomorrow on KUOW. Thank the Stranger.
It's Rev. Hutcherson vs. Rev. (and King County Exec) Ron Sims on civil rights for gay people. As in, do they deserve them or not. I blogged about it here (thanks again, Chuck Currie)
The question of the debate was this: do gay people deserve protection from discrimination?
Yes, says Sims. You know, we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, etc.
No, says Hutcherson, because he hates homosexuality. The Bible tells him to hate, and oh, he HATES it. But, they say, love the sinner, hate the sin (read this explanation of that doctrine, for a chuckle; it has all the spiritual maturity of a snow globe). So we're supposed to assume that Rev. Hutcherson loves the sinner, but hates the sin.
So Rev. Hutcherson loves homosexuals? He knows tons of ex-homosexuals, he says, but does he love the sinners? What does it mean to love homosexuals, but hate homosexuality? I'm skeptical. I find it much more likely that he hates homosexuals. But what do I know, I'm not in his head.
You know what I hate? I hate poverty, injustice, and discrimination. But I'm not ready to say that I love oppressors. I'm sure Rev. Hutcherson loves oppressors, though, right? In a Jesus way at least?
Rev. Hutcherson loves homosexuals? I'm skeptical. Can you simultaneously love the sinner and allow the sinner to be legally discriminated against?
Where did "Love the sinner, hate the sin," come from, anyway? It's bullshit. It's not from the Bible, somebody just made it up, so they could hate people.
Here, I got a better one: "Love the sinner. Period."

I'm just going to linky link here cause you said it all.
That Rev. Hutcherson is a big hypocrite and a total bigot! He calls himself reverend? Huh, Rev.H (for hate).
