I was just looking at my Christmas tree, which is classier, simpler, more elegant, and more soulful than the spirited but tacky trees in my neighbors' windows.

And it got me to thinking: is there anything about the whole bring-a-tree-into-your-house-and-decorate-it tradition that is not totally absurd?

I'm sleeping in the living room tonight because I'm going to leave the fan on in the master bath and I need quiet to sleep.

Why am I leaving the fan on? Oh, I tried to do another load of laundry now that h put the drano down the drain. And it worked to a certain extent; the deluge in the laundry closet was reduced to a trickle.

No, this time the laundry water all came up the sink and overflowed onto the counter. There were two inches of water on the floor when I finally realized. I used all the towels I could find, dirty and clean, to mop up, and I had another one-man bailing party. I'll call a plumber on Monday. Wonder how much that's gonna cost.

Good news: my bathroom floor is not necessarily flat. The water didn't run toward either door. The carpets stayed dry.

I will run the dishwasher tomorrow. I'll have to stand by with my caod. Hmph.
