Conservatives cannot give ONE SINGLE REASON to ban gay marriage that is not religious in nature.  They wish to discriminate against an entire population of Americans based on their religion, and they want to enshrine their bigotry in the constitution. 
 
President Bush seeks to gain popularity by appealing to the population's homophobia.  It is contemptful. 
 
George Bush seems to be driven by a Cold War mythology that America can do no wrong, even when it's doing wrong.
